Intro

If you are considering fertility treatment, one of the first questions is often about cost.

We’ve created this guide to help you better understand the typical costs involved for IVF in Ireland, using Beacon CARE Fertility’s pricing structure as a general reference.

Brief Summary

IVF costs can vary between fertility clinics. At Beacon CARE Fertility, a standard IVF cycle is currently priced at €5,200.

Patients should also factor in costs for the initial consultation, fertility testing and mandatory screening bloods.

These can collectively add approximately €1,000 to the overall treatment cost, depending on the clinic.

1. How Much Does IVF Cost?

The overall cost of IVF treatment will depend on the recommended treatment plan and whether additional tests or procedures are advised as part of your care.

Our standard IVF plan is currently priced at €5,200.

IVF basic plans generally include:

  • Monitoring scans during treatment
  • Egg collection
  • Fertilisation and embryo culture in the laboratory
  • Embryo transfer

As treatment structures can differ between clinics, patients are advised to clarify exactly what is included within the quoted treatment plan.

2. What Additional Costs May Be Involved?

In addition to IVF treatment itself, there may be further costs to consider throughout the process.

These may include:

  • Initial Consultation
    €200

Fertility Testing

  • AMH blood testing (€120)
  • Pelvic ultrasound scan (€125)
  • Semen Analysis:  €150

If fertility testing was recently completed, repeat testing may not always be necessary.

3. Is Fertility Medication Expensive?

For many patients in Ireland, IVF medication costs are covered under the Drug Payment Scheme, which caps monthly medication costs at €80 per household once registered.

Patients who are not eligible for the scheme may incur additional medication costs, which can amount to thousands of euros, depending on the treatment protocol recommended.

4. What About PGT-A (Genetic Testing)?

PGT-A is a form of genetic testing carried out on embryos during IVF treatment.

It may be recommended in certain situations, including for women over 35, recurrent miscarriage, recurrent implantation failure or certain chromosomal concerns.

  • IVF with PGT-A, including up to 8 embryo biopsies: €7,950

The cost of a frozen embryo transfer is billed separately when the transfer is scheduled and is an additional €1,750.

5. How Much Does Embryo Freezing & Storage Cost?

If additional embryos are created during IVF treatment, many patients choose to freeze and store them for future use.

Storage structures can vary between clinics. Some clinics charge monthly or yearly storage fees, while others offer multi-year storage packages.

At Beacon CARE Fertility, the price of embryo freezing and storage for 3 years is €800 (an average cost of €23 per month).

6. Are There Any Other Costs To Bear In Mind?

Before IVF treatment can begin in Ireland, the mandatory screening tests below must be completed.

  • Blood and urine testing, including AMH, Rubella, TSH, and Chlamydia Screening.

These tests can be carried out either through your GP or at your fertility clinic.

These tests must be carried out through your fertility clinic.

7. Is Fertility Treatment Covered By Health Insurance?

Depending on your policy, some aspects of fertility treatment may be partially covered by private health insurance.

Beacon CARE Fertility partners with Vhi, Irish Life Health and Laya Healthcare. Patients are advised to check directly with their insurer regarding the level of fertility cover included within their individual policy.

8. Can You Claim Back IVF Costs In Ireland?

Yes. Fertility treatment costs can qualify for 20% tax relief as eligible medical expenses in Ireland.

9. Does The HSE Offer Publicly Funded IVF?

Ireland now offers publicly funded fertility treatment through the HSE Fertility Services Scheme for qualifying patients.

However, eligibility criteria and waiting times apply, and not all fertility treatments are currently covered under the scheme.

Beacon CARE Fertility is an approved HSE-funded fertility clinic for publicly funded IVF treatment. Read our HSE FAQs here.
