Understanding Azoospermia
For some men, sperm is not present in the ejaculate (a condition called azoospermia). This can happen because of a blockage (obstructive) or because the testes are not producing sperm as they should (non-obstructive).
In many cases, sperm can still be found and used for treatment through minor surgical procedures. Once retrieved, these sperm can fertilise an egg using ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection).

Types of Surgical Sperm Recovery
Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (PESA)
A simple needle procedure to collect sperm from the epididymis. If no sperm is found, TESA is often performed.
Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA)
Sperm is obtained directly from the testes using a fine needle and gentle suction.
MicroTESE
For men with non-obstructive azoospermia, MicroTESE can sometimes identify sperm that would otherwise be missed. This advanced procedure uses a surgical microscope to carefully search for healthy sperm within the testes.

MicroTESE at Beacon CARE Fertility
We are proud to offer MicroTESE to our patients, in partnership with Beacon Hospital and Consultant Urologist, Dr John Sullivan.
