Fertility Options for Same Sex Female Couples
We will carefully assess your needs and agree on the most appropriate treatment plan for you. Your treatment plan may incorporate either Intra-uterine Insemination (IUI), IVF, or Reciprocal IVF.
IUI (Artificial Insemination)
IUI is relatively straightforward and low-intervention fertility treatment that involves directly inserting concentrated sperm into a woman’s uterus during the most fertile point of her cycle.
IVF
An egg is fertilised with sperm in the lab to create an embryo, which is then transferred into the uterus.
This method offers more control and is often recommended if IUI hasn’t been successful, or as a first-step treatment based on your individual circumstances and clinical advice.
Reciprocal IVF (Shared Motherhood)?
Reciprocal IVF, sometimes called Shared Motherhood or Co-Maternity, allows both female partners to share a unique physical connection to the pregnancy. One partner provides the eggs, while the other carries the pregnancy after an embryo transfer.
Using donor sperm, embryos are created in the lab and then transferred to the partner who will carry the baby.
We are proud to have been the first clinic in Ireland to offer this treatment to same-sex female partners.
Choosing Your Sperm Donor
We realise that choosing a sperm donor is a very personal decision, and you can count on us to give you lots of support. We use the European Sperm Bank, and donors must be chosen from this source. Members of our lab team are always on hand to assist you before you make your choice.
